Note: This article contains spoilers for the following “Star Wars” movies.
#12: “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”
Release Date: Aug. 15, 2008
Favorite Scene: My favorite scene in this movie is the Battle of Christophsis. This battle is where Anakin Skywalker meets his Jedi Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, for the very first time. Being one of the earlier battles of the Clone War, it provides great introductions to other characters such as Captain Rex and Commander Cody, who both have notable roles in the following series. Besides being entertaining as a whole, this scene deeply characterizes the relationship between Anakin and Ahsoka after they first meet, as well as the strategies they used to work together in order to win the battle.
#11: “Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker”
Release Date: Dec. 20, 2019
Favorite Scene: My favorite scene in this film takes place on the planet Pasaana. The main character, Rey, meets a very iconic character who debuted in the original trilogy of “Star Wars,” but made his reappearance in this movie: Lando Calrissian. Aside from Lando’s reemergence in this fictional universe, the events that take place on Pasaana offer entertainment and exciting scenes for both myself and many other viewers. These include a speeder chase in which Rey outruns First Order Jet Troopers, and arguably one of the coolest scenes in the movie, Rey doing a backflip over villain Kylo Ren’s T.I.E. Silencer ship and slicing the wing off.
#10: “Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi”
Release Date: Dec. 15, 2017
Favorite Scene: My favorite scene in “The Last Jedi” is the escape from Canto Bight. Characters Finn and Rose Tico were arrested earlier in the movie in the glittering city of Canto Bight, and needed a way to escape in order to continue their mission. The high-speed chase on horse-like creatures called fathiers is thrilling right up to the end. The chase ends with a standoff on a beach where Rose and Finn are able to escape aboard the Libertine, a luxury yacht owned by secretive codebreaker, DJ. From the fathier stables, through the city and all the way down to the beaches of Canto Bight, this exciting chase adds a highly entertaining and exhilarating scene to this film.
#9: “Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens”
Release Date: Dec. 18, 2015
Favorite Scene: My favorite scenes in this movie occur on the planet Takodana, where Rey, Finn and Han Solo go to meet up with Maz Kanata, the owner of a social and hospitable castle complex, to attempt to uncover the mystery surrounding Luke Skywalker’s location. After some time at the castle, Resistance and First Order forces are notified of Rey’s presence there, and this results in a fast-paced and exciting skirmish among X-wing starfighters and T.I.E. fighters in the sky. Paired with Rey’s mysterious encounter with Luke’s lightsaber, the captivating battle among forces above offers something for all viewers in helping to not only progress the plot, but increase the character development of multiple main characters.
#8: “Star Wars: Solo — A Star Wars Story”
Release Date: May 25, 2018
Favorite Scene: My favorite scene in this film is the Conveyex Transport Heist. Being the main focus of this movie, Han Solo meets a small crew of rebels and pulls off this job with them in order to make some money. As the transport winds through mountains and the protagonists attempt to steal precious cargo, the Empire soldiers aboard the train fight back as well as another competitor group of mercenaries with the same objective. This scene provides insight to the backstories of unique characters, who may only show up for part of the movie, as well as a breathtaking surrounding environment that goes together very nicely with the overall high-intensity goal of the team.
#7: “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace”
Release Date: May 19, 1999
Favorite Scene: My favorite scene in “The Phantom Menace” is the Duel of the Fates lightsaber fight near the end of the movie. This is a classic conflict that breaks out between Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi and Sith Apprentice Darth Maul. This fight serves as a great way to conclude all of the events of the film by providing one final challenge for the protagonists to overcome. The setting for this battle does a great job of setting the scene in the Theed Royal Hanger, and the background music for the track is still recognizable among many “Star Wars” fans. Qui-Gon’s emotional death alongside Obi-Wan’s avenging of his Master wrap this fight up in a bittersweet manner leaving viewers feeling satisfied with the lightsaber fighting techniques and events of the skirmish.
#6: “Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back”
Release Date: May 21, 1980
Favorite Scene: My favorite scene in this movie is the betrayal at Cloud City on the planet Bespin. These concluding scenes of the film are packed full of diverse and popular characters, astonishing plot twists and iconic lines loved by many. Luke senses his friends Han, Leia and Chewbacca are in danger and rushes to their aid, just to find them betrayed by their friend, Lando Calrissian, who is a major part of Cloud City. Following these events is notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett’s appearance and Han Solo’s freezing in carbonite, a “Star Wars” technique similar to making someone unconscious. Additionally, Luke and Darth Vader have a short lightsaber duel near the weather vanes on the bottom of the city where Vader speaks an incredibly iconic and recognizable line, letting Luke know for the first time that he is Luke’s father.
#5: “Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi”
Release Date: May 25, 1983
Favorite Scene: My favorite scene in this film is the Battle of Endor. When the Empire sets up their base for the Second Death Star on the small Forest Moon of Endor, the rebels respond and try to thwart their plans. A memorable moment from this conflict is when Luke and his sister Leia take part in a fast-paced speeder chase with Imperial Scout Troopers, bringing high levels of excitement to this scene. Aiding the rebels in their fight are the lovable yet ferocious inhabitants of the Forest Moon of Endor; the Ewoks, who use primitive techniques to help the rebels succeed in their struggle against the Empire. Overall, this scene does a great job of wrapping up the original trilogy in an exciting way before the Second Death Star finally gets destroyed by rebel forces.
#4: “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope”
Release Date: May 25, 1977
Favorite Scene: My favorite scene in “A New Hope” is the very nostalgic Death Star Trench Run. Acting as the climax of the movie, this iconic scene serves as a great conclusion and fun event for viewers that results in a satisfying ending. Although deemed impossible, Luke Skywalker is able to overcome the losses of many of his fellow friends and pilots flying alongside him during the Battle of Yavin and launch the winning shot that blows up the Death Star and wins the skirmish for the rebels. Between being pursued by Darth Vader as well as Obi-Wan’s ghost influence encouraging him to use the Force, Luke is able to succeed through determination, encouragement and hope. After all, rebellions are built on hope.
#3: “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith”
Release Date: May 19, 2005
Favorite Scene: My favorite scene in this movie is the initiation of Order 66, as well as Palpatine’s arrest. To begin, four Jedi are sent to arrest Chancellor Palpatine after he abuses his executive powers in the Senate. This part of the film reveals that Palpatine is also Darth Sidious. He ends up defeating all four Jedi, including Mace Windu, and persuading Anakin to join the Dark Side once and for all. Darth Sidious then goes on to execute Order 66 to end the Clone War, which signals every single clone trooper to turn on their leading Jedi generals and execute them. This montage provides background regarding the deaths of many famous Jedi, but is also very moving for many fans. It also consists of Anakin’s march on the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant where he aids in the actions of Order 66. Overall, this film is a fine addition to the collection of “Star Wars” movies.
#2: “Star Wars: Rogue One — A Star Wars Story”
Release Date: Dec. 16, 2016
Favorite Scene: My favorite scene in this film is, like many others, a battle. More specifically, the Battle of Scarif. Scarif is a tropical beach planet operated by the Empire and the headquarters of their intelligence facilities. Surrounded by a planet-wide force field, the surface is extremely hard for the rebels to penetrate and therefore achieve their goal of stealing the plans to the Empire’s superweapon, the Death Star. One shuttle filled with protagonists Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor, as well as other unique characters, is covertly able to sneak past and land on the surface. Eventually, Jyn and Cassian are able to infiltrate the main command tower, locate and transmit the plans back to the rebel fleet above. Unfortunately, this results in the sacrificing of their lives as the Death Star shows up near the end of the battle and destroys Scarif. The sneaky and rebellious infiltration paired with the emotional deaths of Jyn and Cassian are loved by many fans, and are reasons why I believe “Rogue One” is deserving of the number two spot in my ranking.
#1: “Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones”
Release Date: May 16, 2002
Favorite Scene: My favorite scene in “Attack of the Clones” is the Battle of Geonosis. This battle begins with Anakin, Padmé and Obi-Wan being trapped in an execution arena and being forced to fight ferocious creatures to the death. Following their survivals, the Republic forces of Jedi and clone troopers show up to rescue them, but this results in a full-out battle between the Republic Jedi and clone trooper and Separatist battle droid forces. With so many Jedi fighting alongside the newly-introduced iconic clone troopers, this scene is hard not to love, considering it marks the beginning of the beloved, winding journey of the Clone War. Other significant events during the Battle of Geonosis include bounty hunter Jango Fett’s death, and a nail-biting duel between Jedi Master Yoda and Sith Count Dooku, which Anakin and Obi-Wan also get involved in. When it comes to considering the character diversity, plot structure, Jedi and clone trooper integration and “Star Wars”-like battle segments of this overall scene, the Battle of Geonosis truly encapsulates what “Star Wars” is all about. For these reasons, I can confidently say that “Attack of the Clones” is the best “Star Wars” movie.

Attack of the Clones is not the best Star Wars movie. I have to say Episode I for the pod racing scene, and the introduction and character building of Anakin throughout the movie.
