On Feb. 4 the 66th annual Grammys Awards were held in Los Angeles, California. With a total of 94 categories, hundreds of music artists were recognized, nominated for a large range of categories including best rap album, best alternative jazz album and even person of the year.

Even after more than six decades of this annual music award show, the fallout follows the same script: upset fans complaining about the results.

This year, many fans were upset with the wins accumulated by Miley Cyrus. The former “Hannah Montana” star took home two Grammys, Best Record and Best Pop Solo Performance, for her song “Flowers.”

The single quickly grabbed audience attention with it’s lyrics and video, developing the meaning behind the song. It is a spin off of the 2012 Bruno Mars song, “When I Was Your Man.” She used his lyrics with a twist, making a line like “I should’ve bought you flowers” into “I can buy myself flowers” to show the healing process after separating with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.

Other nominees for Best Record and Best Pop Solo Performance included Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Jon Batiste, Victoria Monét, boygenius and SZA.

All things considered, “Flowers” is a generic break-up song that uses a lot of inspiration from an already released song. In comparison to the other songs it ran against, the song definitely stole a win from many other talented artists and their music.

For example, in the Best Record category there were also songs like “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and “Not Strong Enough” by boygenius, two extremely carefully written and heavily impactful songs.

Another very confusing win lies in the hands of Killer Mike for his album “Michael,” which won Best Rap Album. This album won over albums like “UTOPIA” by Travis Scott, “Her Loss” by Drake, “Heroes & Villains” by Metro Boomin and “King’s Disease” by Nas.

Fans’ reaction to this win was mainly confusion. A lot of people had no idea this album existed, let alone nominated. Fans were taken aback on how this album had won over top charter artists like Drake, Travis Scott and Metro Boomin.

While there was a multitude of controversy on winners and losers, there were a lot of celebrations too.

Laufey, an up and coming jazz/pop artist, won her first Grammy just two years after releasing her first album. Since then, she has released two more albums.

Taylor Swift made Grammy history with her win of the Album of the Year, making this her fourth Grammy in this category. She surpassed incredible artists such as Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder who all have received three wins.

boygenius, a three girl band featuring Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, won their first three Grammys as a band.

All disagreements aside, the Grammys are fun to watch for anyone who cares for the music community.
