In hopes of reducing food waste, Manheim Township High School has implemented a food share wall in the cafeteria. This new section, featuring a large cooler, aims to collect unfinished, packaged foods, such as apple packets, milk and more. This mission is dedicated to reducing the school’s contribution to the nearly 60 million tons of food thrown away yearly in the United States.
This new project is entirely for students, from those who could not finish their food to those who would like more.
“Students can take what they want and leave what they don’t,” Manheim Township Food Service said in an Instagram post.
This initiative opens the door for students to obtain free items that allows them to feel nourished and ready for the rest of the school day. Those who would like to contribute to this cause can drop off packaged food items in the cooler located directly across from the check out lines at the cafeteria.
