On Monday, May 11, the Manheim Township baseball team won the Lancaster-Lebanon League championship against Lampeter-Strasburg with a final score of 2-0. The game was a shutout for eight straight innings, until Township scored two runs in the ninth inning to clinch its second L-L title in three years and its third in five years.
After a leadoff double in the ninth by Rocco Billiard, senior Logan Garman scored on a Grant Wilson squeeze bunt for the game’s first run. Township added a second run on an RBI single by Jacob Carrasco (3-4, RBI).
The game was led primarily by the pitchers on both teams: Township senior Jack Kenneff threw six scoreless innings, striking out eight and fellow senior Tyler Shirk threw three scoreless innings to finish it off for the Blue Streaks.
Carrasco played a stellar game offensively and defensively, throwing out an L-S runner at third to end the seventh on an acrobatic throw after a wild pitch to keep the game scoreless and send it into extras. He ended the game by throwing a runner out at second base, leading Township to the ultimate Lancaster-Lebanon League championship.
Township ended its season on Friday, May 15, at the first round of district playoffs at home against Muhlenberg, where Township lost 6-3.
