MT Ski Club has become a popular and fun way for students to ski and hang out with friends during the winter. But there’s been a lack of cold weather so far this season, which makes it hard for Ski Club to do the thing they do best: ski.

The club has been popular this year, as there’s been a boost in people who’ve joined.

“The snow is better and there’s so many more kids this year that it makes it just a lot more fun,” said freshman Myla Sentz.

As for why there’s been so many new people joining this year, a lot of skiers say they joined because their friends were doing it.

“A bunch of my friends were doing ski club and it’s a great way to hang out with them,” said sophomore Graham Forman.

However, skiing this season has been unpredictable. There was a good portion of time when it didn’t snow at all, then there was a snowstorm before it got warmer and there was a huge amount of rain.

“The weathers been pretty bad. There was that one weekend where it snowed and it was awesome, and then it was downpouring rain afterwards,” Sentz said.

When there’s less snow in a season, which is becoming more and more common, the ski resort is able to create their own snow using snow machines. They start this process at 28 degrees Fahrenheit and up to 37 degrees Fahrenheit.

Besides this setback, Ski Club was still able to get out on the slopes multiple times this season.

The club takes five trips every season to Blue Mountain Ski Resort. These trips are taken sporadically, as the weather is a major play in skiing.
