The Winter Olympics games contain many popular winter sports like skiing, snowboarding and curling. However, the sport that most tend to watch is figure skating. With the recent drama happening between the gold and silver medal winners in the 2022 Beijing Olympics, many people are excitedly waiting to see who will be participating in 2026. Here are which Team USA figure skaters we can’t wait to hopefully see in the next Winter Olympics, hosted in Milan:
First is Amber Glenn, 25, who won the US National Championship in 2024 as well as in 2025, making it her most impressive performance and award. She is the first American woman to win the Grand Prix Final in almost 15 years. Additionally, Glenn became a role model after coming out in 2019, which makes her the only openly LBGTQ+ female figure skater on Team USA. Glenn is one of the most courageous figure skaters, as she dealt with an eating disorder in the past.
We also hope to see 20-year- old Ilia Malinin. He is the first skater to perform all six quad jumps in one program, which is a skill that many thought to be impossible. Malinin started skating at the age of six because of the inspiration of his parents, Tatyana Malinina and Roman Skornyyakov, who were both Olympic figure skaters for Uzbekistan. Additionally, he was the first skater to land a quadruple axel in competition in the U.S. Figure Skating Classic in 2022. Based on this, Malinin is one of our favorite male figure skaters. He has had many injuries in the past and even considered not competing anymore, but overcame these to achieve his dreams and continues on growing his accomplishments. We are excited to see him compete in the Olympics next year because we have high hopes that he will come back with another medal.
Isabeau Levito, 17, is a fan favorite for the Milan Olympics, winning silver in the 2024 worlds. Along with many other awards like winning the World Junior Championship in 2022, Levito has been predicted to participate in the Olympics. Levito is most known for her elegance and calmness when performing. Her technique is often compared to Russian skaters, making her popular with the judges. However, she recently had a minor setback. Due to harsh training from a young age, Levito stated that would not be competing at nationals this year because of a foot injury. Despite this injury, she expects to recover in time to compete at the Olympics. Levito’s rare technique and ethereal presence on the ice is one of the reasons why we believe she will be competing in the upcoming Olympics. It’s normally uncommon for figure skates to focus on this element in skating, which we find makes her unique from others. We hope Levito recovers in time to make an appearance at the Milian Olympics and inspires other skaters to embrace her unique style.
Josephine Lee, 17, is on the rise in her professional career. Often in the shadow of Levito, Lee was never praised with the same attention. She even had a rocky start to skating, failing her first learn to skate class back when she was 2 years old. In 2024, she performed the highest scoring long program at the U.S championships in recent years, beating Levito. She came in second behind Glenn. This win proved to Lee and the world that she could have what it takes to make it into the 2026 Milian Olympics. We think Lee should be in the Olympics due to her ability to overcome obstacles. Lee’s skating career has had many bumps, with her breaking her leg at 11 years old. However, she has always been able to push through them. Her story is an inspiration to many figure skaters, and we hope to see her in the 2026 Winter Olympics.
With so many talented US figure skaters, it is uncertain who will officially be competing for the United States. However, with less than a year until the Milan Olympics, these four figure skaters are who we hope to see in the games.
