There are many causes for excitement near the end of the calendar year, between Thanksgiving break and the winter holidays. For music fans, however, there is yet another thing to look forward to. Whether you use Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, YouTube music or any other streaming service, there is one thing that they all have in common: the summary and statistics of your listening habits over the past year.
Spotify’s “Wrapped” is perhaps its most popular and anticipated feature, as it allows listeners to compare their top songs, artists and albums throughout the year. This year’s Spotify Wrapped was released on the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 4, in contrast to past years with release dates in late November. This year’s Wrapped included how many minutes of music you listened to, as well as the day in which you listened to the most music, along with the typical top five artists and songs. Your Wrapped will also transfer onto a playlist of your top 100 most played songs from the year.
According to Spotify, Taylor Swift was this year’s Global Top Artist, with over 26.6 billion streams globally. Others in the top five are The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake and Billie Eilish. Some of this year’s top songs around the world were “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter, “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone, and “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” by Billie Eilish. These compare to the top songs and artists in the US, where country artists like Zach Bryan and Morgan Wallen are high on the carts.
