Mr. MiniTHON is an ongoing event hosted by MT MiniTHON that will be highlighted at the main showcase on Jan. 19. MT senior boys had the chance to apply to be a part of the group, and once chosen, were able to be involved in various events. This year, there were 13 boys chosen: Blayke Alaimo, Simon Bowen, Thomas Capizzi, JP Gonzalez, Lex Haberbosch, Charlie Hill, Liam Lingenfelter, Spencer McClintock, Jack Pfitzenmaier, Jack Reynolds, Nick Rockwell, Terrell Russell and Leighton Underwood.
“They are going to perform some sort of talent at the January showcase after all the athletic teams do their performances and the judges will vote on who has the best performance,” said Mrs. Boal, a teacher advisor for MiniTHON. “Then that boy will be crowned Mr. Four Diamonds.”
There will be two winners crowned Mr. Four Diamonds at the showcase. One will be who raises the most money during an ongoing “canning” event where the boys go around lunches every Friday to raise money. The other winner will be based on who showcases the best talent. Along with the Mr. MiniTHON boys participating in the main showcase, Mr. Robbins, another MiniTHON advisor, mentioned how a goal is to get larger clubs involved, like Key Club, and potentially administration to participate.
On Nov. 21, the 13 Mr. MiniTHON boys participated in a hot wings challenge at Buffalo Wild Wings. The purpose of this event was to get more student involvement. Although Mr. MiniThon was not fully established in previous years, their main goal is to include more student connection based activities and one way is through this ongoing event.
”Mr. MiniThon has been here since 2017,” said Boal. “But last year perhaps it was not as emphasized early on as it was this year, but it is something that we are trying to improve on.”
In December, MiniTHON plans to host a pep rally where the Mr. MiniTHON boys will compete in a pie eating contest and have the opportunity to choose teachers, coaches or advisors to play against in a dodgeball tournament. Other events include the “Milk Mile.” Further details are to be determined but essentially, the Milk Mile involves running a lap around the track and chugging a glass of milk in between each lap until it adds up to a mile.
“It all boils back down to our goal of wanting our kids to join and participate on MiniTHON day,” said Boal.
