For this year’s fall play, MTPA is putting on a production of “Peter and the Starcatcher.” This play is a prequel to Peter Pan, following Peter and his friends on their journey at sea from Victorian England to an island ruled by the evil King Zaroff. Along the way, they meet Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training, whose job it is to protect starstuff, a magical dust from the stars, from falling into the wrong hands, especially when the ship is taken over by pirates.
“Peter and the Starcatcher” is slightly different from the plays that Manheim Township has done in the past because it includes more singing and dancing numbers than past plays have featured.
“This play is really interesting because it’s a play with music,” said Mrs. Kennedy, an MT English teacher and director of the fall play.
While this means that the cast has more work to do in order to get ready for the performances, it also adds another element to the show. According to assistant director Mrs. Luther, not only is the play a great form of entertainment for people to watch, the cast and crew also create meaningful friendships while working together.
“They’re all very supportive of each other,” said Luther.
“Peter and the Starcatcher” will run from Nov. 21-23, with one show on Thursday, Nov. 21 and two shows on Saturday, Nov. 23. Tickets will go on sale on Nov. 1, and can be purchased by clicking this link: https://cur8.com/18387/project/125960 that will also be found on the posters advertising the play, during lunches the week leading up to the show, or at the box office the night of the show.
“This is a really fun show. Students should definitely come out for it,” said Kennedy.
The play is appropriate for all ages. Tickets are $10 for students and $12 for adults. Show times are Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 2 and 7 p.m. in the MT auditorium.
