Opinion: Make early release and late arrival for juniors permanent

The extension of late arrival and early dismissal privileges to juniors for the 2020-21 school year could indicate the possibility of this being a permanent shift in school policy. Though this temporary change in policy was made with Covid-19 precautions in mind, making it permanent could be helpful to juniors struggling with their workloads and busy schedules.

Though these privileges are usually reserved for seniors with study halls during either the first or last periods of the day, allowing juniors with the same schedule would allow them more time to complete their assignments at home or even get an extra hour of sleep in the morning. Juniors tend to have heavier workloads than other classes, and also are more likely to hold an after-school job than underclassmen. It only makes sense to grant them more time away from school to work.

This decision would also reduce the overall traffic, as having fewer juniors on campus at the beginning and end of the school day would give busses better access to the middle and high schools, and would lessen pedestrian traffic on campus

It only makes sense to allow juniors who can fulfill the same prerequisites that some seniors do to take advantage of late arrival and early release.
