On Friday, Oct. 10, the Manheim Township football team took on Reading for their last home game of the regular season. The final score was a shutout of 63-0.
Township’s season record improved to 7-1 while Reading fell 1-7. Township set the tone for the night in the first quarter, running out to a 21-0 lead despite running two offensive plays. Riley Rontal picked off a Reading pass on the first drive of the game, setting up a 9-yard touchdown run from Marcos Fernandez on the Streaks’ first play. On their second play of the game, senior quarterback Jack Kenneff ran for a 38-yard touchdown to make the score 14-0. Sophomore Jonathan Kemper forced a Reading fumble on the ensuing kickoff and it was recovered in the end zone by senior Grant Sages to put the Streaks up 21-0 in the first quarter.
From there, Township continued to pile up points. Kenneff added a one yard TD run. Daryus Dixon also caught two touchdowns, one from Kenneff and one from Dayne Byler. PJ Myers also scored three rushing touchdowns and Dehvyn Lauano added a score.
Rontal finished with two interceptions as the Blue Streak defense held Reading to just 17 yards.
The game honored the senior football players, cheerleaders and marching band members in a pre-game ceremony.
The next football game is on Friday, Oct. 17 at Penn Manor at 7 p.m.
