In the recently completed winter season, Manheim Township took home one Section 1 Title, three Team Lancaster-Lebanon League Titles and seven individual league titles.
The boys basketball team finished their season with an overall 8-10 record. Their season ended with their last regular season game at home against Red Lion.
Girls basketball had an overall 19-10 record. The girls won the first round of district playoffs at Pequea Valley with a final score of 42-28. They later finished eighth in the district playoffs, qualifying for states, before concluding their season with a loss in the first round of states to Upper St. Clair.
Boys wrestling had an overall record of 12-9. Seniors Malcom Sams, Zach Landis, Leighton Underwood and junior Joe Cruz went to districts. Underwood placed fourth at districts, then competed in states at Hershey.
This year was the second season that Township girls wrestling was recognized as a PIAA-sanctioned sport. Their overall record was 12-4. In the LL League tournament, sophomore Rylie Martin placed fourth, junior Janyce Santiago placed fourth, sophomore Kylie Corradino placed third and sophomore Ainsley Bounds placed second. Juniors Bella Valudes and Laila Colon placed first, both receiving individual league titles. The team placed third out of 16 teams. Colon, Corradino, Santiago, Bounds and Valudes then moved on to regionals. At the state competition in Hershey, Colon took home a 7th place state medal.
Winter track sent four seniors to the PTFCA Indoor State Championships; Emily Edelman, Elena Barrall, Ethan Peffley and Adam Kingston. Edelman placed 11th in shot put, Barrall placed 18th in the mile, Peffley placed 10th in the 800 meter and Kingston placed second in the 3000 meter.
Rifle’s overall record was 11-3. They tied for second in the league with Manheim Central. The top individuals on the team were senior Jackson Adams and junior Gretchen Fahrney. Adams had an average of 99.67, and Fahrney had an average of 99.17.
Junior Jaelynn Neidermyer, graduate Courtney Arms, junior Julia Ramos and freshman Marissa Barotti in unified bocce’s Team 1 placed third in Leagues.
Seniors Hope Broich and Bethany Jaquith were the top female bowlers this season. Broich averaged 185 pins, and Jaquith averaged 199.7. Jaquith won an individual L-L League title.
Diving sent two girls to leagues: junior Kaila Atteberry and sophomore Haley Marino.
Boys swimming’s dual meet record was 5-3, and girls swimming’s was 7-1. Girls swimming won the team L-L League title. Sophomore Adora Emuwa won an individual league title in the 50 Free event. Junior Cami Schwartz also won a league title in the 100 Breast. Another league title was awarded to Township’s 200 Medley Relay team which consisted of senior Emerson Mandrell, Schwartz, freshman Bella Del Castillo and Emuwa. Yet another LL League title was given to the 200 Free Relay group which included senior Adrianna Anujin, Mandrell, freshman Delaney Connors and Emuwa. Swimming had 17 athletes compete in districts. The girls who swam at districts were freshmen Del Castillo, Connors, Rowan Yingst, sophomores Emuwa, Rain Davies and Sophia Panagopoulos, junior Schwartz and seniors Mandrell, Anujin, Mariel Keares and Alya Oldac.
The boys who swam at districts were juniors Kent Sarsuelo and Cole Richards and seniors Cole Stevens, Brayden Pyott, Bram Burge and Jack Commerce. Emuwa, Schwartz, Mandrell, Del Castillo, Connors, Anujin and Stevens moved on to states. In states, Stevens placed 13th in the 100 Back and 14th in the 200 Free. Schwartz broke the school’s record as she placed 4th in the 100 Breast. She also placed 12th in the 200 IM. The Medley Relay consisting of Mandrell, Schwartz, Del Castillo and Emuwa placed 11th. Emuwa placed 16th in the 50 Free.
