On Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan. 25, Manheim Township girls wrestling competed in the annual Lancaster-Lebanon League tournament, placing third overall. During the tournament, Laila Colon stood out in particular, placing first in the 142-pound weight class by winning seven out of eight matches on the mats.
Colon mentioned the strategy that helped her get an advantage during the tournament.
“Staying confident was definitely my strategy,” she said. “Keeping a positive mindset very much changes your whole attitude.”
After the tournament, Colon revealed how she was able to secure the win, and what motivated her to do this.
“When I wrestle a lot goes through my head but also not so much at all. It’s almost so much that it feels like nothing. But staying heavy and staying aggressive helped me secure my win,” she said.
MT will next compete in sectionals on Feb. 14 at Governor Mifflin, where they hope to continue their winning streak.
