Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States on Monday, Jan. 20. This historical event happened after a loss in the 2020 election, indictments from an attempt to alter those election results and a two-year campaign to get a second term against Joe Biden and later Kamala Harris. This election ended up being one of the closest in history. The ceremony was held indoors due to cold weather at the United States Capitol building in Washington, D.C.
Attendance was different in this inauguration than others. Along with the Trump administration and family, many large business owners and CEOs attended as well. Most notably, the CEOs of Google, TikTok, Meta, Tesla/X and Amazon were in attendance sitting in front of the cabinet members. Past presidents were also in attendance, including Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Joe Biden and George W. Bush, along with their wives, other than Michelle Obama. Harris also attended along with her husband, Doug Emhoff. Government officials like Congress members and members of the Supreme Court were also at the Inauguration.
Trump began to sign executive orders shortly after being inaugurated. These include rolling back over 80 orders put in place by former president Biden. Regarding immigration, he declared a national emergency at Mexico borders, reinstated the “Remain in Mexico” policy and attempted to end birthright citizenship, a right guaranteed by the 14th amendment in the constitution. Environmentally, he ordered deregulated drilling and removed protections around Alaska’s coastal borders, and pulled out of the Paris Climate treaty. Trump also targeted DEI and targeted transgender rights. He also pulled out of the World Health Organization.
