The Fellowship of Christian Athletes was a program started in 1954 to welcome athletes to connect with Jesus Christ. Don Mcleanan created the program with a desire for student athletes to embrace the influence of Jesus Christ.
The National Leagues for Lancaster is a part of FCA that involves all students from Lancaster. They have many different events and opportunities including trips, camps and more.
The fellowship continued to gain popularity, and began to have meetings all over, including schools such as MTHS. The Township program is currently led by juniors Ella Suydam and Jackson Cogle and holds meetings every Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. in the South Gym. The weekly meetings typically consist of time for games, prayer and a devotional. The club also participates in many different activities involving sports and social gatherings.
Some Township students enjoy FCA for its ability to hang out with other students in a more friendly environment.
“We don’t start right away so there is a little bit of time to chat and get to know others,” said Heidi Barall. “I love that we can gather and anyone is welcome, and that we can support others in our school who have our beliefs or just are good people to talk to.”
