This year, MT’s fall sports teams finished with an overall record of 180-33-1. This included seven Lancaster-Lebanon League Titles, one L-L League runner-up, five District Three titles, one District Three runner-up and one PIAA state runner-up. The successes also consisted of five individual L-L League titles, one individual District Three title and four individual state medalists.
The boys golf team finished with a 32-8 overall record, while the girls went 33-1. Both teams won the L-L League team title with junior Piper Smith and senior Alex Kaun winning their respective individual league titles. In the district tournament, the girls team finished as the district champions, while the boys team finished third. Smith took the individual PIAA District Three title, winning both league and district titles this year. The PIAA State championships, running from Oct. 21-23, ended with the girls losing after four playoff holes to place second. Smith took seventh overall, receiving her first state medal.
Field hockey ended its regular season with an 21-4 overall record, just missing out on a Section One title. However, in the postseason, Township pulled out a 1-0 victory over Warwick to defend their L-L League title. Highlights from the game included junior Emma Drolet blocking all Warwick shots while sophomore Julia Weaver scored the lone goal of the game. Throughout the district playoff games, freshman Azhie Rotz was in goal for the district quarterfinals, semifinals and finals where she only let one score from Lower Dauphin get past her. This led to a District Three runner-up finish. In the PIAA State playoffs, Township fell to Villa Maria Academy in the quarterfinals on Nov. 2.
After winning the section with a 7-0 record, girls cross-country won the L-L League title on Oct. 15. Senior Elana Barrall took the individual title in the competition. Other L-L medalists included junior Kaila Atteberry (eighth), junior Lexie Kauffman (ninth) and freshman Olivia Albrecht (14th). At the District Three meet on Oct. 26, the girls took the district title for the second year in a row. Barrall took seventh overall and Kauffman snagged 11th. At the PIAA state meet on Nov. 2, the team took seventh place overall. Barrall finished 20th, securing a state medal in her senior season.
Boys cross-country also became Section One champions with a 7-0 record. They joined the girls team in winning the L-L League meet where senior Adam Kingston took the win for the individual league title. Township swept all top three positions with other medalists including seniors Ethan Peffley (second), and Cole Stevens (third). At the PIAA District Three meet on Oct. 26, medalists included Kingston (second), Peffley (fourth) and Stevens (13th). On Nov. 2nd, the team moved onto states where they took sixth overall. Kingston (sixth) and Stevens (21st) both took home state medals.
Girls volleyball finished the season with an 18-6 record, as they finished as runner-up in the L-L League tournament against Hempfield on Oct. 19, defeating Octorara and Garden Spot to make the finals. In the district playoffs, they made it to the third place game on Oct. 31 where they lost, finishing fourth in District Three but earning the program’s first PIAA state qualification since 2000. Their season came to an end with a loss to North Allegheny, the eventual state champions, on Nov. 5. All six of the team’s losses were to teams ranked in the top eight in the state.
Girls tennis won the Section One title with a 7-0 record, going into the L-L League tournament as the top seed for AAA schools. The tournament ended on Oct. 2 with Township taking the win over Hempfield to become L-L League champions. In the league singles tournament, junior Haley Miller took the individual AAA title in flight one with a 6-1, 6-0 record in the finals match. For flight two, junior Maya Lamichane took second overall. In doubles, Miller and senior Camille Honrade took second overall, falling short against a Hempfield duo. In flight two, senior Lilly Briner and junior Ellie Evans made it to the semifinals in their flight, making the top four overall. Senior Mariel Keares and junior Gianna Conte snagged a second place finish in the flight three bracket. At districts, the team took the win over reigning champion New Oxford on Oct. 17 with Briner/Evans and Keares/Conte taking wins in the doubles aspect of the team competition. With these wins for the doubles teams and Honrade’s success in winning two of the three sets, the girls won the PIAA team District Three championship. In singles, Miller took fourth in the district, which advanced her into the state tennis singles tournament. The team fell in the first round of the PIAA state tournament on Oct. 22. In the PIAA state singles on Nov. 1, Miller made it to the quarterfinals of the bracket, securing a top eight spot in the state. The team finished the season with an overall record of 19-1.
Boys soccer had an overall record of 10-8-1. The team missed the L-L League playoffs but entered districts against Central Dauphin on Oct. 22. Township won 3-2, moving onto District Three quarterfinals, where the team lost in penalty kicks to Warwick.
Girls soccer won the Section One title with a 10-0 record before defeating Lancaster Mennonite, Warwick and finally Cedar Crest in penalty kicks for the L-L League title. After entering the District Three playoffs as a second overall seed, Township eventually defeated Northern York 1-0 to secure the District Three title. The winning goal was scored by junior Kate Palumbo. Girls soccer lost in the first round of states to Conestoga by a score of 1-0. They finished the season with an overall record of 23-3.
The football team finished with an overall record of 10-2 and went into the District Three playoffs as the top seed in 6A. After starting the season 9-0, MT lost the section title to Wilson on Oct. 25. The Streaks beat Cumberland Valley in their first playoff game, but lost to Harrisburg on Nov. 15, ending their season.
