The start of Thanksgiving means a lot of things for Township students; whether you’re looking forward to traveling, seeing family or just catching up on sleep, it will hopefully be a relaxing week. If you don’t have big plans this Thanksgiving break, here are some ideas for ways you can pass the time.
Are you feeling active? Check out the Millersville Turkey Trot on Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving day) at 9 a.m. The race is a 5k, so it’s a great way to get a head start on working off that Thanksgiving dinner. If that’s not your idea of a good time, but you still want to get some exercise, games like pickleball, volleyball and tennis are sure to be fun with friends and family. If the weather is too cold for outdoor activities, playing board games is a great way to spend your time this week. Nothing says Thanksgiving break like a never-ending game of Monopoly.
If games aren’t for you, seeing a movie is a great idea. Films like “Wicked,” “Red One” and “Moana 2” are coming out this November. If you would rather stay home, you could get a head start on the holiday season by watching some festive movies or shows. May I suggest “Elf,” “Christmas Vacation” or my personal favorite: a “Harry Potter” movie marathon?
With the weather getting colder, curling up with a good book and a warm drink sounds pretty appealing. Personally, winter is my favorite time of the year to read cozy mystery novels, especially Agatha Christie, Holly Jackson and Karen McManus. These authors all have many books, so if you get hooked, this could be a big reading week for you.
Similarly to the comfort of reading, baking could be a relaxing activity. If you are prepping for Thanksgiving, you could try your hand at baking a pie. This Thanksgiving dessert staple is definitely a crowd pleaser. Or you could start a new tradition and bake something new. The options are endless.
Another idea for a way to pass the time is crafting. Maybe you have always wanted to learn to crochet, but never had the time. Now is your chance. Grab some supplies and watch a few instructional videos. You’ll be an expert in no time. Other arts and crafts ideas include knitting, painting, jewelry making and more. With the holidays coming up, I’m sure your friends and family would love to receive a handmade gift from you, so now could be the perfect time to start making them.
Continuing with the festive trend, check out the Christmas Light Show at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster city. Starting Nov. 29, there will be huge displays of Christmas lights set up in the stadium for viewers to drive through.
Also, Nov. 29 is Black Friday, meaning that lots of stores will be having huge sales. Get started on your holiday shopping or treat yourself to the deals on Friday. A shopping day is always fun and a great excuse to get out of the house.
Whatever you choose to do this week, I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and a restful break from school. We’ll see you back on Dec. 2.
