On Saturday, Nov. 2 the Manheim Township girls soccer team faced Northern York at Central Dauphin on Landis Field. The game-winning goal scored by Kate Palumbo claimed the District 3 Class 4A Champions title for the Blue Streaks.
The team improved their record 21-2, while Northern York fell to a record of 18-2-1.
The forward scored her goal in the second quarter of the first half.
“The goal was really fulfilling after a long season of hard work as a team and some frustration with finishing throughout [my] personal season,” Palumbo said. “It felt really good to be able to make a difference for [my] team.”
In order for the girls soccer team to stay focused during high-pressure moments, the girls gather in a circle and take two deep breaths every time they take the field. This gives them the opportunity to recenter and calm down.
“Our coach always stresses the importance of drowning out the noise around us and focusing on ourselves,” said Palumbo. “I think that going into the second half with a lead, it was really important for us to regroup and focus on controlling the rest of the game to maintain the lead, especially in a game with high stakes.”
The team played against Conestoga on Nov. 5 for their first round of states where the team fell 1-0, concluding their season this year.
