On Sunday, Oct. 20 the MT art and music department held its fall theme concert. This year’s theme was “Earth.” There were performances from the orchestra, symphonic band and chorus. Each song selected related back to the Earth theme. There was also student-made artwork displayed in the lobby.
The orchestra, directed by Mrs. Caravella, performed four songs: “Sacagawea,” “Danza Ritual del Fuego,” “Elementa” and “On Top of the World.” Soloists included Molly O’Shea, Collin Bube, Colin Baker-Herron, Gus Beaulieu, Carter Burkholder and Grace Stull.
Next, the symphonic band, directed by Mr. Siegel, performed: “And In the End it Was Earth,” “Before the Sun” and “American Riversongs.” Solos were played by Jackson Cogle and Collin Bube.
Lastly, the chorus, directed by Mrs. Haldeman, performed four songs written in foreign languages from around the world. The first song, “Mata del Anima Sola” was written in Spanish and featured a solo by Timothy Cruz. The second song, “Oseh Shalom,” was sung in Hebrew and featured Lily Babione on the clarinet and Benjamin Schnabel on the piano. The next song, “Ngtohando” was in IsiZulu, and it featured percussion instruments and an original poem recited by Anna Gail Mattson. Their final song was “Hela Rotan,” which was written and performed in Indonesian.
The music department now turns its attention to the upcoming winter concert in December.
