The Manheim Township girls golf team finished second in PIAA 3A girls state championship, led by Piper Smith, who finished seventh in the 3A girls individual state championship, to Peters Township. The Blue Streaks took the championship to extra holes but after 22 holes, one shot was the difference. Their score was +11. Smith scored 148 over two days,+4 over par.
In addition to her own seventh place individual finish at states, Smith has had a strong influence in the team’s success. Her golf journey started seven years ago, but she started playing competitively more recently.
Smith’s dad has had a big influence in her interest in golf.
“My biggest inspiration is probably my dad because my dad has been my coach for the past four years and pushes me to be the best version of myself on and off the golf course,” she said.
Smith’s success has a lot to do with her hard work everyday.
“I practice everyday for an hour or more just depending on what I’m working on,” she said.
