On Monday, Oct. 7, junior Haley Miller won the girls 3A Lancaster-Lebanon League singles tennis championship. Competing against Hempfield senior Alex Gregory, Miller won her match 6-1 and 6-0.
According to Miller, practicing everyday is a key component in helping her grow.
“I practice everyday with my mom, Caroline Miller, Manheim Township girls tennis, and just go out there and play my best,” said Miller.
Miller’s mother has made a big impact in her current success.
“My biggest inspiration personally is my mom because she not only taught me to play tennis, but she used to play tennis as well, and she played in college,” Miller said.
Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz have also influenced Miller’s success.
“They’re really humble people and I enjoy watching them play on the pro circuit,” she said.
Miller’s role models have not only contributed to her recent win, but have helped shape her to continue to succeed in the girls 3A state championships. After her successful run to the semifinals in the district championship, Miller has now put herself in contention for the Pennsylvania 3A state championship, which begins Friday, Nov. 1.
