As of 2024, the billion-dollar brand “Crumbl Cookie” is growing bigger as its sales continue to rise. Their weekly cookie lineup has people running to their store to try out all of their cookies. They might be worth the wait, but their ingredients… not so much. Their cookies contain some of the most dangerous ingredients, often including ultra-processed ones.
For example, in their famous cookie, the “Red Velvet White Chip,” an ingredient called titanium dioxide is used. A few years ago, EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) discovered that titanium dioxide used as a food additive has genotoxic effects on people which could lead to cancer. Therefore, it was no longer considered a safe food to eat and was banned in multiple countries but it is currently still legal in America.
Another one of their famous cookies, “Banana Cream Pie,” contains soybean oil. Soybean oil is a vegetable oil used in many sweet treats and is typically used in cooking. Referred to as “one of the most controversial oils out there,” soybean soil has proven to cause many problems when being eaten, such as inflammation, cardiovascular disease and cancer. It also has the risk of increasing obesity. Soybean oil is made from GMO soybeans, which was proven to contain residues that could cause birth defects, autism and kidney disease.
Their ingredients are not the only unhealthy part of their cookies. The calories in each of their cookies are shocking. One cookie is estimated to contain 700 to 1,000 calories. With their combination of over 50 grams of both fat and salt, it sets you up for a metabolic failure. Their serving size is ¼ of a cookie, which leaves you eating basically nothing if you have only one serving. 180 calories for a tiny piece of a cookie is unrealistic too, as no one eats that small amount.
Additionally, many people eat multiple cookies in one sitting. For the same calories as a whole Crumbl cookie, you could eat any regular sugar cookie at a grocery store for fewer calories. This would result in a healthier solution because you can find many decent-sized cookies that are not overloaded with fat and sugar and still have a great taste.
Another problem with their cookie is their baking method. Many complaints have been made about their undercooked cookies, mostly notably their regular milk chocolate chip cookie. It was proven that some of their cookies are raw inside, being wet instead of warm and soft.
A singular cookie is currently listed as $4.49 in store. At Walmart, a pack of 10 cookies of the same size is $2.98, not to mention that the Walmart options are healthier.
Overall, Crumbl Cookies are very tasty, but are one of the worst choices if you want to follow a healthy lifestyle, want to save a little money and don’t want to eat undercooked cookies. For a cheaper and healthier option, you should avoid Crumbl Cookie and stick to your regular grocery store cookies.
