Their goal was to have high intensity, and that’s exactly what they delivered. On Saturday, Oct. 5, Township field hockey’s varsity and junior varsity teams traveled for 45 minutes to play for the first time this season in the MidPenn area against one of its best teams in that region: Palmyra. This was varsity’s last game before their upcoming L-L League quarterfinals against Lancaster Country Day on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Lancaster Catholic at 11 a.m.. Township secured this league playoff last week after their win against Penn Manor.
The varsity team led by head coach Jessica Shellenberger, a teacher at MT, and assistant coach Juli Bojanic-Collier, defeated Palmyra 3-2. The first goal for the team was scored by senior Rose Montgomery with an assist from senior Sarah Ebersole, while the second goal was scored by sophomore Julia Weaver with an assist from senior Gracie Clawson. However, the goal that ensured the win was from Ebersole on a penalty stroke, breaking a 2-2 tie. Varsity finished the regular season 16-0-2 overall, only losing to Warwick.
The JV team, led by coach Kayla Waldrup and volunteer assistant Julia Romano, tied Palmyra 2-2. The first goal was scored by junior Liv Spearing while the second was scored by freshman Marissa Barotti. The tie pushes JV’s record to 13-0-2, and they will conclude their season today, Oct. 8, in a doubleheader against Solanco and possibly McCaskey.
