Since September is childhood cancer awareness month, this past week, many Township fall sports, such as cross country, field hockey, football, golf, soccer, tennis and volleyball have been helping to spread awareness of pediatric cancer by wearing “Play FTK” shirts.
According to the World Health Organization, childhood cancer affects around 400,000 children per year between the ages of 0-19, and for the past 10 years, Manheim Township has supported MiniTHON to help kids. Since MiniTHON’s beginnings at Township, sports have been a huge part in advocating for its cause throughout the year. “Play FTK” shirts have been a principal theme throughout the Manheim Township sports in order to show other schools and students the school’s support for MiniTHON and the fight against childhood cancer.
The week’s focus on MiniTHON will culminate at this Friday’s football game against J.P. McCaskey, with a theme of “Play FTK” shirts.
MiniTHON is selling “Play FTK” shirts during all lunches for $10. MiniTHON also encourages students to bring any spare change to the game and buy any of the baked goods or pom poms being sold at the game to support MiniTHON.
Sign ups for MiniTHON can be done through the club selection form (https://docs.google.com/forms) or by talking to Kat Boomsma, Mya Ziegler, Jocelyn Parise, Caroline Zimmerman and Eyad Gomma, the overall MiniTHON heads.
