With the end of the school year in sight, the MT Marching Band (MTMB) is getting ready to gear up for another season.
“I am excited for the upcoming season,” said junior clarinet player Jairus Campos. “Practicing and playing through all of the music and making it come alive is the best part.”
Last year’s theme focused on the conflict between heroes and villains as the Blue Streaks celebrated “50 Years On the Field.”
This year the excellence continues with the MTMB’s presentation of the theme “Color Our World.”
This year’s show features numbers including “Color My World (Mix)” by Chicago, “Mr. Blue Sky” by Elo, and “Malagueña” by Ernesto Lecuona. The show will also include “Nights in White Satin” by The Moody Blues and “Paint it Black” by The Rolling Stones.
According to the MTMB website, the marching band has a philosophy of excellence, teamwork, goal-setting, competition, tradition, success and growth. This year it will continue with that philosophy as it prepares to “Color Our World” with each of its components.
The Color Guard is one of these components, a group of visual artists who use equipment like rifles and flags to represent the music performed by the marching band in a visually appealing manner. They also use a combination of various dance styles like ballet, jazz, and rhythmic gymnastics.
The rest of the band is split into brass, woodwinds and percussion. Each of these groups has unique instruments to benefit the band as a whole.
This year the band will be led by two new drum majors, Lily Babione and Cameron Ribich.
