The Manheim Township bowling team’s season has officially commenced after tryouts took place at Dutch Lanes on November 18 and 20. 

The team consists of sixteen members: five on the varsity team, and eleven on the two junior varsity teams. No one who tried out was cut; each player was placed on a specific group within the team based on their athletic ability. Due to the immense number of players who tried out, two junior varsity teams were necessary. 

After tryouts, there was a scrimmage on Monday, the 25th, against Lancaster Catholic as well as against Garden Spot the following day; the MT bowling team successfully won both. The team has remained highly successful, as last year consisted of 45 wins and 46 losses, as well as third place in their section. They also qualified for states, which they placed 6 out of 40 teams. 

“My goal is to make it to the LL league championship this year and to again do well in regionals, so we can again qualify for states,” said assistant coach Shirley Jensen.

Each match is composed of three games that five bowlers play in. For each game that is won, the team scores two points. The team that has the most bowling pin falls by the end of the three games scores an extra point, meaning that each team has the chance of scoring seven total points for each match. 

This year, the first official match will be on December 6 at Dutch Lanes against Warwick High School. The season runs until the state tournament in March, which takes place in Pittsburgh.
