On Oct. 22, Manheim Township High School held its annual Tri-M induction ceremony for new and returning members. The ceremony was held after school hours with parents, friends, school officials, faculty members and other students in the music department invited to attend.
“The significance of the annual induction ceremony is to honor the newly inducted and the returning members of Tri-M, as we are all able to be together to start the year as a united group,” said Tri-M President Caroline Nachtigall.
The Tri-M Music Honors Society’s purpose is to provide a space and method to acknowledge the musical achievements of its members.
“I think that it is very important for students to be engaged in the performing arts,” said Nachtigall. “It is such a great way to get involved around the community and connect with your peers throughout the school.”
Tri-M aims to strengthen the students’ and school’s musical potential, as well as to focus public attention on the school’s music program through community service.
The ceremony included a performance of “Days of Wine and Roses,” presented by seniors Jackson Cogle and Gabby Muller Melo.
“We chose this song because of how relaxed it is,” said Cogle. “Sometimes performances can be all structured and thought out; the beautiful part about a jazz song like this is that you feel the moment out and go on from there. It’s nice to be able to do that in an environment like Tri-M and be able to express yourself through a song like that.”
Cogle is a returning member of Tri-M and is deeply involved in Manheim Township’s music department. Cogle expressed his excitement for the opportunity to be a part of the society once again.
“It feels nice to be recognized for what I love to do, music,” said Cogle. “Being able to be a part of a community that supports music in our schools is so important and special to me. I’m really grateful for the opportunity!”
Candidacy for the society is decided upon from a number of factors. Candidates must be:
- Enrolled in at least one musical ensemble and/or class for a minimum of one semester during the school year
- Show leadership, service, and good character while at the high school
- Maintain at least an “A” average grade in music courses for the previous semester and hold an overall grade of “B” for all subjects
Students involved can look forward to several upcoming events, such as the second annual pickleball tournament in the spring, as well as the annual cabaret, where many students have the opportunity to showcase a variety of talents.
The evening concluded with a celebration of talent, dedication and community. As new and returning members begin another chapter of music and service, their shared passion ensures that Manheim Township’s music program will continue to thrive and inspire.
