If you follow MTHS fall sports, you might be aware that the girls varsity volleyball team’s libero for this year’s fall season is senior co-captain Aidyn Lefever. Lefever is the starting libero, a defensive player who wears a different color jersey and excels at passing and digging, leading her team in a nearly undefeated season with an overall record of 9-1 at the moment.
Being a senior, this is Lefever’s final season on the MTHS girls volleyball team. As a libero, her specialty is digs. So far this season, Lefever has had a total of 136 digs with an average of 15 digs per game.
Lefever first discovered her interest in the sport when her friends joined the team, thus deciding to give it a shot herself and falling in love with the game in the process. She has since continued to play for the past six years for the Blue Streaks, as well as for her club team.
“So far our season has been going really well and I think it will continue going well,” said Lefever. “I think we are a really good and connected team which has been really helpful on and off the court.”
She thinks the team will be successful going into the postseason and is hopeful they will make it far.
Her team appreciates her commitment to encouraging and assisting the other girls on her team, as she is one of the team’s biggest cheerleaders.
“Aidyn is really good at staying loud and invoking energy from the team during long matches,” said senior co-captain Leilani Stauffer.
Stauffer and Lefever have been playing together since 7th grade and started to get to know each other in middle school. Stauffer’s favorite thing about Lefever is how encouraging she is towards all the girls on the team. She loves when Lefever supports the girls by celebrating their good kills with them.
Lefever’s advice to younger volleyball players or those thinking of joining is to make the move and try out for the team even if you have doubts. The friendships she has made over the years are her favorite thing about the sport.
“Just do it. You can improve so much even if you don’t think you’ll make it. The friends and sisterhood created is one of the best things I could ever ask for,” she said.
Her favorite memory during high school volleyball was making states last year and getting the chance to go to Pittsburgh. She loved the bus ride there and back with her friends.
Lefever has made the decision not to continue her volleyball career at the collegiate level, thinking it would be best for her senior club season to be her last. After high school, Lefever plans on attending a four year university to major in sports management/business/marketing and minoring in Spanish. All the years she has spent playing volleyball impacted her life by spiking her interest in studying a field involving sports during college. This year, she plans on finishing off her volleyball career by leaving a legacy for her team.
Lefever is grateful for all the opportunities, memories and friendships Township Volleyball has given her. Her team has recently won the first round of the Lancaster-Lebanon league playoffs, and she plans on continuing to do her best in the upcoming games for the rest of her last Township season.
