On April 22, Manheim Township welcomed new teacher Mr. Cottle onto the staff. Cottle is a business teacher and will be teaching accounting, personal financial literacy and business entrepreneurship.
Local to the area, Cottle graduated from Elizabethtown High School and Lebanon Valley College with a major in business. Previously, he taught at Lebanon High School before accepting a position at Township.
“I came from Lebanon High School, which is very tough at times but I feel like helping students out with not only education but with what was going on in their lives can really make me a better teacher,” said Cottle.
He is excited to have the opportunity to personally connect with students in order to help them succeed at Manheim Township. While the environment is a bit of a change for him, Cottle believes that he will enjoy it.
“The atmosphere is a positive one,” said Cottle. “Kids want to learn and the teachers are willing to help them.”
Cottle is not only interested in having an impact on his students in the classroom, but he is already invested in the athletic program as well. Even before he got the teaching position, Cottle had been an assistant coach on the Manheim Township football team with a focus on the receivers on the team.
“I’ll get to know my students a lot better and my players as well,” said Cottle. “Now I get to see them more and get to connect with them in school.”
Overall, having the ability to teach and support students in the building is something that excites Cottle about his new position. He looks forward to creating a presence at Manheim Township and being able to share his education as well as personal knowledge with the students here.
“Treat others how you want to be treated. It takes you a long way in life,” said Cottle. “If you’re a good person, a hard worker, you’re going to do well.”
