On Thursday, April 25, four Township athletes made history with the third fastest Penn Relays 4x800m preliminary race time of 7:40.69. The team of seniors Ethan Peffley, Adam Kingston, Andrew Kemper and Cole Stevens also broke the school record of 7:47.43, set earlier this season at the Haverford Invitational.
On the evening of Friday, April 26, the Township team returned to Franklin Field to race in the Championship of America race. The team ran 7:40.85 to place 4th overall, winning the title of top PA time and top public school time. The team beat 83 teams from 16 different American states, as well as teams from both Puerto Rico and Jamaica.
“I think it’s so easy to run fast and run your heart out when you’re running with a team that you love,” said Stevens. “Track seems like an individual sport but when it comes to racing in that 4×8 relay, we run for each other and to represent the school, and that’s enough motivation to run 110%.”
The team looks forward to senior night against McCaskey tonight at 4 p.m.
